Voltempo to showcase British-built HyperCharger at RTX Scotland
Voltempo, the UK manufacturer of advanced electric HGV (eHGV) charging systems, is exhibiting at RTX Scotland this month, demonstrating how its groundbreaking HyperCharger is helping fleet operators transition to zero-emission freight.
Its presence at the Scottish show, taking place at the SEC, Glasgow, 19–20 November, builds on a milestone year for the Birmingham-based company, which saw the start of series production of the British-built HyperCharger at its Tyseley Energy Park facility.
Located on Stand E25, Voltempo will present the technology’s capabilities and benefits for logistics operators across the UK.
The HyperCharger, purpose-designed for electric trucks, can deliver 1 megawatt of dynamically distributed power to one vehicle or spread across six vehicles simultaneously. It offers a scalable, energy-efficient solution tailored to the operational needs of large fleets, with its distinctive “halo” lighting and cable management system designed for safety, ease of use and reliability in busy depot environments.
Earlier this year, the HyperCharger became the first megawatt charging system to undergo full-scale independent testing at the University of Strathclyde’s PNDC, part of the new Advanced Net Zero Innovation Centre. These trials validated its performance providing reassurance to fleet operators.
As the lead partner of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium – part of the UK government’s £200m Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme (ZEHID) delivered in partnership with Innovate UK – Voltempo is spearheading the rollout of charging infrastructure across UK logistics depots to support the decarbonisation of road freight.
Building on this, Voltempo is also leading a consortium to electrify Scotland’s HGV fleets, supported by Transport Scotland through its £2 million HGV Market Readiness Fund, to create a community-owned HGV charging network that will cover the whole of Scotland by the end of 2027. Through this initiative, fleet operators looking to decarbonise could benefit from significant grant funding to help accelerate their transition towards zero-emission transport.
Michael Boxwell, Founder of Voltempo, commented: “We’re delighted to bring our HyperCharger to RTX Scotland and connect with fleet operators who are planning the next stage of their electrification journey. Scotland has an incredibly strong innovation ecosystem, and our recent testing work with the University of Strathclyde underscores how collaboration between technology developers and research institutions can accelerate the shift to zero-emission transport.”
He continued: “Our HyperCharger is British-designed, British-manufactured and built for the future. It’s engineered to meet the needs of real-world fleet operations – safe, scalable, and energy-efficient. We’re proud to be helping create new green jobs and supporting the UK’s journey to net zero.”
Knowledge Zone presentation
Visitors can also hear Michael Boxwell speak in the Knowledge Zone on Thursday 20 November (1:30–2:20pm) during the Future Gazing session, exploring how emerging technologies – from artificial intelligence to autonomous vehicles – are shaping the future of HGV operations.
