Newton Trailers has developed the standard to benchmark safety in bulk trailers. It comes after an increase in hauliers moving backloads of aggregate, has coincided with a new wave of inexperienced drivers joining a post-Covid sector that has experienced a fall in driver training provision.

The key HALO features of the GPT+ trailer, which are designed to enhance safety and boost operational efficiency, include: no catwalk as standard; an air operated tailgate; VWS Weigher + inclinometer; Michelin tyres; tyre Inflation system; Edbro CS-18 or HP-17 ram; JOST axles; three-Point rear access ladder; raised coupling point and an electronic braking performance monitoring system.

The feature list comes following an18-month collaboration with STAS and extensive tipper tilt testing conducted in Northern Spain last year, which revealed that the MICHELIN X Multi T was the best performing tyre among premium rivals, proving to be the most stable and robust.

Ultimately, the GPT+ trailer with HALO specification and Michelin rubber achieved a 9.3° tilt angle with a 30,800kg payload during testing. This surpassed both the UK IRTE Class A (7° target) and German DIN 70073 (5° wheel lift test) standards.
